Intel SSD 600 p series 512 GB review: NVMe announces performance, SATA prices

A half-dozen new 3D NAND-based SSD in August, Intel’s SSD-600 p series especially our attention as a more aggressive price m2 NVMe-based model consumer desktops and notebooks targeted.

With 3D TLC Flash memory developed in collaboration with micron, Intel has succeeded to keep prices in check and offers 600 p in capacities from 128 GB for $67 sequential read and write operations of up to 770 MB / s and 450 MB / s (1.8 GB / s and 560 MB / s on the 1 TB model).

While that we has come more slowly than what to M2 NVMe drives expect, remember that this series should be affordable. compared to the Samsung SSD 950 is Pro for rated 2.2 GB / s write speed coupled with 900 MB / s write for the 256 GB model and 1.5 GB / s for 512-GB version. What is however to note that here the 950 256 GB costs per $ 187.

About the same amount of money buys a 512-GB version of Intel’s 600 p. Only $0.36 per gigabyte the 600 p 512 GB looks to exceptional value, especially when you consider that the cheapest TLC SATA 2.5 “costs $0.24 per gigabyte hard drive and a good bit slower should. Not only that, but when compared to premium SATA MLC drives, such as for example the Samsung SSD 850 Pro, Intel 600 p is a lot cheaper.

Intel 600 p hitting 512 GB

As mentioned, there are four capacities to choose from, but we recommend the 128 GB model to avoid, since the cost per gigabyte that is quite high. The 256 GB and 512 GB models are very reasonably priced and we are waiting still to come, if we expect the 1TB-Modell that’s too competitive to be.

The 512GB-Modell is read and write speed of 1775 MB / s and 560 MB / s for a sequential, or valued, at 155,000 with write IOPS come during his random IOPS 128,000 read. So again, not in the same class as the much more expensive NVMe going how have Samsung 950 series Pro, Toshiba’s OCZ RD400 or even Intel’s SSD 750.

Intel has managed to even the 1TB-Modell in the form factor (2280) squeeze 80 mm, so no problem be compatibility in compact systems. All the chips placed on the front of the circuit board for the 512 GB model we have in stock and we wait to see how the 1 TB model is to be configured.

Speaking of chips on board, we find only three IMFT 3D TLC NAND Flash memory chips, the as mentioned earlier are significantly cheaper than equivalent MLC chips. After an odd number of memory chips seems pretty strange, although it makes sense here. Each TLC chip features two matrices are stacked, thus “3D NAND”. This means that each chip has a capacity of 192 GB added to total 576 GB so that room for overprovisioning and a 17.5 GB SLC cache. Also included is a 2 GB DRAM cache DDR3L-1600.

Its almost unlimited development budget thanks to Intel’s firmware has managed to avoid the mistakes that plagued other brands of SSDs. An internal Intel controller is not this drive but on the inside, as you might have guessed.

Instead the company decided to motion for a less likely candidate in Silicon. This is of course not the first time for one SSD controller Intel has outsourced as the SSD 510 wore a Marvell controller, while the SSD 520 carried out the controversial SandForce SF-2000.

And the Silicon motion controller problems are suffering not to be expected, Intel has yet one hands approach here as evidenced by the unique packaging and part number applied. For good measure, Intel has also its logo embossed, on the controller, which has been finished on top with a coated copper heat spreader, that help with heat dissipation, a common for m. 2 SSDs.

The controller meets the NVMe 1.1 specification and as such as PCIe 3.0 X 4 (4 GB / s) bandwidth available. Default is everything on offer here such as TRIM, garbage collection and s.m.a.r.t. Also included is an internal AES 256-bit hardware encryption engine, but designed in contrast to the Intel SSD Pro 6000 series for business users, accelerated eDrive or other encryption services are not supported in Windows.

All four 600 p Intel SSDs have the same five-year guarantee together with the same 72 TB TBW endurance rating, which is unusual and we generally expect the larger models have a higher rating.

As we know probably test

How to while peak i/o impressive manufacturers claim performance out of the box, can reduce this performance in the course of time. In contrast to a conventional hard drive, operating record made an SSD is a two-step process: a block of data must be deleted and then written. Of course if the drive is new and unused to delete anything, and therefore the first step can be bypassed, but this happens only once when the drive is trimmed.

Given this benchmark, we run the full HD tach several times to fill the drive before the exam. This simulates heavy use and clearly shows how performance will be affected after regular long term use.

The most drives support the TRIM function, which is designed to counteract these negative effects.

Benchmarks: file copy test

Intel 600 p matched the more expensive 400 GB 750 in our large 6 GB compressed file test.] This will far ahead of the fastest SATA SSDs and not far behind the mighty Samsung 950 Pro.

Copy program test is comprised of many small uncompressed files rich by only 1 to 5000 K in size (6104 files amounting to 2.75 GB). The performance here is very unexpected, as the 600 p is nowhere to be seen. The throughput decreased to only 159MB / s and the Intel 600 p is one of the best SSDs we’ve tested lately.

Our last file copy test used game data in a mixture of small and large, compressed and uncompressed files. The Intel returns to form in our game copy test with a throughput of 464MB / s 600 p, what’s about on par with the Kingston Raiders. The performance here is not overwhelming, but it is acceptable, since the price tag.

Review All about Honor post 8

Who is honor-8 have the most brilliant Smartphone we ever checked with extremely reflective glass, which gives off an Aurora effect as it bounces light around at all angles. This flashy Android phone will make himself in a crowd, even if its 5.2-inch display is rather flat next to the winding. It is elegant in its own way. Review All about Honor post 8 Even better: for every purchase of a cheap mobile phone, Huawei honor budget-friendly sub brand brings a lot of the same specifications and performance as Samsung devices, but in the medium price range. Honor 8 costs just as much as the recent and, and works in a similar way only on GSM carriers like AT & T and T-Mobile in the United States.” This is in the same class. When followers take their love for Twitch streamers too some distance

It was once one within the morning when the Twitch streamer Ellohime heard a knock at his entrance door. He have been grinding away at a PC sport that evening in December 2015 whilst his toddler daughter and fiancée slept. His 22-year-old brother was once crashing within the central Florida house, too, and it wasn’t unparalleled for him to ask buddies over at ordinary hours. Ellohime left his table and went downstairs to the door. “Hello?” got here a voice from out of doors. “Hello,” Ellohime spoke back. “Hello?” the stranger mentioned, his voice shaky and skinny. It took a couple of extra back-and-forth responses prior to Ellohime discovered the fellow on the door wasn’t pronouncing “Hello.” He was once pronouncing “Ello.” This was once a fan. By now, his fiancée was once wide awake. Ellohime ran up the steps to the second one ground, the place he may just see right down to the entrance porch. “I saw a very small, skinny kid,” he says. “His face was all red.” He walked downstairs o...
