It was not Microsoft’s surface Studio to arrive until December 15, but seemingly have the Redmond company into the Christmas spirit a bit too early. I say this because some of the first customers, the pre-orders for the versatile all-in one get it earlier than planned.
Microsoft’s surface Studio AIO is surprisingly easy, to repair
Among the points of a surface Studio was the team at iFixit early and we all know, what does that mean… disarm time!
After a short overview of the exterior, the teardown crew the AIO turned around and hidden Torx screws removed the rubber feet. You leave with some help from a suction cup, lost the clips of the bottom plate and they were inside the machine… well, kinda.
Microsoft’s surface Studio AIO is surprisingly easy, to repairBefore deeper dig, iFixit away lift mid frame brought a connected speaker. Remove two Delta-branded brushless fan, so they were out of the way, the location and access to the meat and potatoes of the surface-Studio. Smooth sailing from here is out as the team 2.5-inch SATA hard drive came across one standard, removable m. 2 SSD, as well as a standard. The hard drive inside your machine was a Seagate M8 ST1000LM024 1 TB SpinPoint hard drive goes with only 5,400 rpm that beg a fast Flash-based drive will be replaced.
He focus their attention on the screen, the team reported that it is one of the easiest replacement jobs on the Studio, as the entire display Assembly as a unit can be replaced without completely dismantle it or the base.
All in all iFixit awarded the Microsoft surface Studio a reparability score by five 10 (the higher the number, the easier is to fix it). The desirable AIO praised how easy it is to replace the display, as mentioned above, and earned top marks for its liberal use of common modular components that the display (I mention this again for the simple fact that most AIO PCs to see their fixtures in the back of the display, not in the base as shown here have included) can be swapped out without even touching.
Unfortunately important components such as CPU, GPU and RAM on the mainboard soldered come and thus not individually be replaced. So the entry level calls iFixit wise perspective buyers, twice about buying-to think 8 GB configuration.
I personally would recommend the 32GB-Option 980 M graphics also includes a 2-TB-hybrid drive and GeForce GTX although it tacks on an additional $1,200 on an already expensive $3,000 base system, it is understandable if you choose to pass. There is also a mid tier option, which contains an Intel Core i7 CPU, 16 GB RAM, an NVIDIA GTX 960M graphics card and a 1 TB hybrid drive for $3,500, which is a bit easier on the wallet.
